1st Semester (Fall Program)
session 1 of 12
Wednesday, September 11th
1) Students will learn how roller coasters are made.
2) Students will learn how gravity and centrifugal force keep a body in a roller coaster when going upside down.
3) Students will build roller (marble) coasters with sets of Gravitrax.
4) Students will build digital marble coasters using an app on the Innovation Lab iPad and try them out.
5) If time allows, students will take a virtual ride on the Minions Madness Roller Coaster.

Wednesday, September 18th
1) Students will learn how bridges are constructed and what makes them strong
2) Students will learn about the different types of bridges.
3) Students will learn key words like: cable, truss, pillar, etc.
4) Students will build a variety of bridges using legos.
5) Students will work with the app:
5) If time allows, students will watch a video of some of the world's most impressive bridges.

1) Students will learn about solar power and how it works
2) Students will learn key words like: solar panels, grid, photovoltaic cell
3) Students will build a solar powered car
4) Students will go outside and try out their cars.

1) Students will continue to learn about solar power.
2) Students will learn key words like: ultraviolet (UV) light, electromagnetic spectrum, gamma ray, radio wave, photochromic
3) Students will create a solar powered a solar activated bracelet using UV beads and pipe cleaners
4) Students will also create a solar powered airplane.

1) Students will learn about electricity, circuits, and batteries
2) Students will learn how a battery works
3) Students will create a battery-powered car

1) Students will continue to learn about electricity and where it comes from
2) Students will play circuit maze and discover how important it is for the curent to make a complete loop in order to light the block
3) Students will create a battery-powered fan

1) Students will learn about how binoculars work.
2) Students will learn key words like lenses, magnification, ocular, prism, optic
3) Students will create a pair of binoculars with Mrs. Brister's instructions

1) Students will learn about film projection and how it works in theaters, etc.
2) Students will specifically look at holographic imaging and how it is created through mirrors and reflections.

1) Students will create marble coasters in various arrangements to run a marble through.
2) Students will then create a "ball seesaw"

Students will create a tin can robot.


2nd Semester (Spring Program)
session 1 of 12
Wednesday, January 22nd
Students will learn about robots and the technology used to build them. Students will create a robotic hand.

session 2 of 12
Wednesday, January 29th
Students will complete their robotic hand.
Students will discuss "What is an Engineer?" and view the video below. Afterwards students will use various building materials such as Strawz, Legos, Magnetic Tiles, Brain Flakes, etc. to create suggested things such as a skyscraper, bridge, rocket ship, car, etc.
